Jacobean Dance Workshop and Showcase
The Masque of the Olympic Knights
Workshop: Friday 10th February 7pm to 9pm and Saturday 11th February all day
Public talk by Anne Daye: Saturday 11th February, 9:30am to 10:30am
Public showcase of workshop material: Saturday 11th February, 7pm to 9pm
Venue: Younger Hall, North Street, St Andrews
The Masque of the Olympic Knights (more prosaically known as The Masque of the Inner Temple and Grays Inn) was written to celebrate the marriage of Elizabeth Stuart to Frederick of the Palatinate in 1613, and would have involved both professional performers and leading members of the Jacobean court. The aim of this weekend is to explore how it felt to take part in a masque, and for the public showcase, to be present at a partial reconstruction of such an event. There may be audience participation (we hope). The dancing workshop will be led by Anne Daye, lecturer in historical dance at Laban, Trinity College of Music and RADA, and chair of the HDS (Historical Dance Society). The event is supported by the HDS and the University of St Andrews.
The public talk and showcase are both free and open-door events.
Workshop participation is free but spaces must be confirmed in advance.
